Having a mood board help put all your ideas swirling around in your head to a true vision. It also helps to see what a can become or how every piece will come together. I truly enjoy sitting down and imaging what a room could become and adding different design elements together to make one beautiful room.

With Autumn right around the corner I couldn’t resist putting together a cozy living room that screams come in, relax and get cozy.

One Day Makeover

When I was asked to do a makeover for a friends primary bedroom I started researching immediately all the things i could do in the room to maximize the space. People think because they have a small room that it’s harder to make it functional but I think the opposite. There is less dead space to fill and you can make it feel cozy and inviting.

The couple was pretty easy in their request-use some of their decor that they haven’t been able to display since being married, storage, a gallery wall, and the rest was up to me. I began by making a mood board in Canva. I love being able to visualize what the room will look like and add in pieces as I find them. I started off by adding the paint color, which is Boothbay Grey by Benjamin Moore. Then moved onto the curtains knowing we wanted to keep them in a neutral color. Next, was the bed frame and nightstands. Since I was working with a smaller room I want a bedframe that was more minimalist and didn’t take up a lot of visual space and a metal frame was perfect for the space. I also found an amazing deal on the nightstands from Pottery Barn that can come in a pair. Once you have the big pieces figured out the rest is just about coordinating and finding the right pieces that can come together without being too matchy matchy. A key to making a room feel put together is shopping at more than one store. Check places like At Home, Wayfair, Target, and Home Goods to find pieces that fit your style and budget and trust me it’ll come together. Now let’s get to the good part-the decor links !

One Room Challenge-Week 1

April 10, 2022

I am so excited to be participating in the spring one room challenge! Our craft room/office has been on my list for a long time. I’ve been rather intimidated by making my own cabinetry but now that I have the tools and have watched a thousand videos I know I can do it.
Here’s some before pictures and the plans:

I’ve drawn out this plan a bunch of times in different layouts but this is my best one yet. There will be one central desk with lots of drawer storage for all my crafting supplies. The cupboard will hold our printer on a slide out, as well as my sewing machine and cricut. I will have to alter the shelves so they wont be 4 feet wide and they’ll instead be 2 feet wide so I won’t have sagging with the wood but having it drawn out gives me a feel for how the space will be used.

Now if you’ve seen my designs you can see I am a huge fan of blue and moody. I want this to feel like a room in Hogwarts without it being overly obvious. I want to feel cozy in the dark colors and feel inspired to create.
Here’s the design.

The entire wall minus a 3 foot section in the middle will be all cabinetry. In the middle where the desk is, I will be using peel and stick faux brick panels from Ninth & Vine. I think I’m most excited about the drawer pulls. These were supposed to be our pulls for our kitchen when we remodeled 2 years ago but they were back ordered so I wasn’t able to use them, until now! It’s the little things. I absolutely love this table from Pottery Barn but I’m willing to spend $900 so, I’ll either build one or thrift one, whichever comes first or easiest. And what room would be complete without a rug. I’m not sure the exact rug i’ll use but I’m hoping to find a beautiful washable rug that has a vintage look to it.
To start the project I’ve patched the ceiling where we had a water leak, patched some holes in the wall, demoed the chair rail where the built-ins will be, removed the baseboards and painted the entire room.
Week 2 I am planning to start building the boxes for cabinetry and I’ll show you how easy they are to make.
In the meantime, check out all the amazing participants in the One Room Challenge here.
